Alright my minions. It's that time of month again, and I promised you something good for September's contest.

I call it the Dynamic Pose Contest.

Yes, you probably know where this is going just judging from the title. The point of this contest is for you to draw one (or more) of your characters in a particularly dynamic pose. I'll be looking for usage of foreshortening, perspective, and squash-and-stretch techniques. (And if you don't know what any of these terms mean, then you can easily Google them. I checked. Google gives you good results if you just plug in the words.)

I'll be judging this competition based on how much effort you put in to breaking your character out of their usual poses. Some of us already know how to draw dynamic poses, while some of us have yet to play around with such things. But we all know I don't give a dang about how good you are; No matter your skill level, I want to see you try something you're not familiar with, and to give it your best shot.

I have a few rules on the matter, but not to many.
  • The first rule is that the pose must be drawn from scratch; absolutely no tracing allowed. The Universe will be my witness to your lameitude if you trace, so don't.
  • Second, I want you to come up with a pose of your own. By all means, use reference material to help you, like stock photos and other artists' drawings, but please don't duplicate an entire pose. I say this because I want you to be thinking about how movement works, and chances are you won't be if you're just copying someone else's work. Remember, your effort is what I'm looking for.
Backgrounds are optional, but I'll definitely give you bonus points if you try for a dynamic background in your piece as well.

Also, because what I'm looking for is effort on the part of the pose, I'm not strictly requiring the piece to necessarily look finished. I want you to spend most of your effort getting a good composition down. But if you can color it and such, please do. Just remember, if your submission is a sketch, it needs to be presentable in accordance to the group rules.

A little tip to get you started: If you're not sure what pose you want, just start drawing little stick-figures on a piece of paper of different movements and poses. Once you have a pose, then you can start looking for reference material if you need. You can also take a picture of someone or yourself for reference if you can't find the pose you need. Again, just make sure it's your own pose.

The contest will close on Friday, September 27th.
First place winner will receive a one-character, full-color sketch from :iconquartervirus-archive:.

So enjoy the contest, guys, and do your best! I look forward to seeing your submissions!

To Non-Members:
I've made this contest open for anyone who's hoping to win some of Sak's art!
Here's some basic info you should know, since you may not be familiar with our contests.

:bulletpurple: Only one submission is allowed per person. You can, however, incorporate more than one OC in your submission.
:bulletpurple: All entries should go in the Contest Folder. There should be a "contribute" button if you click on the folder. Don't worry if you don't see your work show up right away! I have to manually approve it. This is to make sure your piece is abiding by the rules (which you should look over to make sure).
:bulletpurple: The OC Consortium is a quality group for quality OCs, so we've got protocol here. Even though you don't need to join for this contest, I want your submissions to abide by the group rules, so please read them over! Your submission will be reviewed before I let it in, and I will deny your piece if it doesn't follow the rules. I won't bite, so ask me questions about anything if you have any.
Info, Rules, and How to JoinTo Join
Join requests are NOT automatically accepted. If you apply you must include a detailed (but not too terribly long) description in your join request that includes the following::bulletblue: A short background involving your experience in creating worlds and characters: How long you've been at it, what some of your best characters are, etc.
:bulletblue: Information about the character or characters you wish to submit to the group (include a link to a drawing or written piece of or about said character).
:bulletblue: Any other interesting tidbits you think will be convincing, such as how long your character's been around (if long), if you have a ongoing graphic novel about them, or whatever else you can think of.Requests will never be denied on artistic ability, only on the level of experience you have with world-building. If your request is denied I'll make an attempt to tell you why. Remember, a denied request isn't for forever. You're welco

:bulletpurple: Avoid using any fan-character of any sort. I do allow in certain Role Play characters, but I only ask you use those if you don't have any true OCs. If you're not sure what qualifies, all you have to do is ask.
:bulletpurple: Do your best and enjoy the contest!

I recommend all non-member participants to watch this group so you can receive updates and contest results.
In other news, I got the W.I.P folder up. As the name states, this folder is for works-in-progress. It's a folder where you can share your developing ideas and get your questions and requests for critiques exposed to a larger audience. You can submit drafts, sketch ideas, character designs, story ideas, fragments of written work, etc, for the purpose of getting feedback about them. Or you can use it to just show off whatever idea it is you're currently working on. If you want feedback, make sure you specify so in your work's title so people know to stop and look at it.

Some rules about giving feedback:
:bulletblue: Don't give it unless it's requested, and if it is requested, be courteous about what you say.
:bulletblue: At the same time, be honest. If people request feedback, then they should be able to take a critique that isn't sugar-coated.
:bulletblue: If someone wants feedback about something specific, don't go critiquing other aspects of their idea.
:bulletblue: Make sure your feedback is productive.

I'm sure this'll all run smoothly, but if there's any problems be sure to tell me.
And one last thing! The group chat room party. It was my understanding that not many people showed up last time. Also, I discovered that we do, in fact, have a few members who live in the land down under, so I may need to divide the chat room parties up so we can get everyone involved. I don't have the time to work it all out right now, but I will be thinking about it and planning for it in hopes we can actually get this to work.

Also, you guys, it may behoove you to invite each other to chat from time to time. There's no need to be shy.

...

And I think that covers everything. As always, if you have any questions please ask!
